Stay Alert!

Picture of person driving being alerted by their mirror

Over-the-air software updates are continuing, and with that, participants selected as part of the treatment group are beginning to see safety messages when driving along the Selmon’s Reversible Express Lanes and in the downtown Tampa deployment area. To date, over 300 participants have received the most recent round of updates (ver. 20564). If you have not yet received the most recent update, don’t worry! Keep in mind, it may take your vehicle several passes to receive the necessary information to update. Drivers with units in the control group will not receive alerts until a later date, if at all. Drivers with the single-antenna installation can expect to begin receiving alerts by the end of June.

Application of the Month:
End-of-Ramp Deceleration Warning

Commuters approaching downtown on the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway’s Reversible Express Lanes enter a curve ending at a traffic light at the intersection of East Twiggs Street and Meridian Avenue. Morning traffic backs up here, increasing the risk of rear-end crashes. Drivers will receive a series of alerts when they are approaching the curve at an unsafe speed, reminding them first of the posted speed limit, followed by recommended speeds based on the queue length ahead. Participants with updated units in the treatment group can expect these safety messages to begin by the end of June. With active alerts occurring, head over to the Current Participants page for a refresher course, view the CV Pilot Training Video, or download additional copies of your training materials.

The Best of ITS Award annually distinguishes organizations that have implemented the most advanced transportation projects in the nation. Read THEA’s press release for more on the award.

Maintenance Schedule

If you are interested in purchasing a new vehicle, require an equipment removal from your current vehicle due to a commute change/move, or believe your equipment needs an inspection, please schedule a maintenance or uninstall appointment. These appointments are available every Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., at the HCC Ybor Training Center (subject to change). Be sure to plan ahead, as availability for these appointments is limited. There will be no maintenance availability on Friday, June 14th or Friday, July 5th. Participants requiring uninstallation may continue with the Pilot using a different vehicle, pending an inspection at a subsequent re-installation appointment. As always, visit the Current Participants page for resources and information regarding your participation.
