Application of the Month: Wrong Way Entry

The downtown end of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway’s Reversible Express Lanes (REL) is a potential entry point for wrong-way drivers. As part of the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot’s suite of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, the wrong-way entry alerts aim to reduce the risk of collisions by detecting and warning wrong-way drivers before they get on the expressway. If you approach the downtown end of the REL and turn in the wrong direction, you will receive a “Do Not Enter” alert. If you continue in that direction, you will receive a second alert that you are going the wrong way. To view this alert in action, visit our Videos page. Updates Continue with New Alerts

Over-the-air software updates are continuing. To date, 550+ participants have received the most recent round of updates. If you have not received the most recent update, don’t worry! Keep in mind, it may take your vehicle several passes to receive the necessary information to update. All drivers can expect additional over-the-air updates to new firmware versions by the end of August, activating additional alerts and safety messages for those in the treatment group. If you feel your vehicle has not updated properly, or you are experiencing technical difficulties, please contact Rob Boelke at rob@tampacvpilot.com.

Maintenance Appointments Now Available Thursdays

If you believe your equipment needs an inspection, are interested in purchasing a new vehicle, or require a removal from your vehicle due to a commute change or move, please schedule a maintenance or uninstallation appointment. These appointments are now available every Thursday and Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the HCC Ybor Training Center. Be sure to plan ahead, as availability for these appointments is limited. There will be no maintenance availability on Friday, August 23. Participants requiring uninstallation may continue with the Pilot using a different vehicle, pending approval, at a subsequent reinstallation appointment.
